Sable is a New York City based trio with an eclectic style that touches on elements of electronic music, math rock, noise, jazz and various other genres. The trio started as a collaboration between best friends, Jaco Imani and Dmitri Burtis, and was the culmination of a long standing musical relationship that started in high school and outlasted several bands, various occupations, locations and life changes.

Sable's first project ,"The Due Return", was a concept album for the Immersive art/ entertainment company Meow Wolf which revolved primarily around Jaco's cinematic narrative based song writing. This was followed by the two part album "Ayllu", which relied more heavily on experimental approaches and improvisation.

With the permanent addition of Nate Garner on Saxophone in 2023, the group continues to evolve, pushing genre boundaries and crafting its dynamic voice.

"Ayllu is one of those for-the-records kind of albums that transcends genres and playing styles to become its own piece of art for which comparisons are challenging. Just know it is gorgeous."

Dmitri's percussion journey commenced in Venice Beach, California, at the age of five. Relocating to Bali, Indonesia, at ten, he immersed himself in the study of Balinese Gamelan percussion, contributing to a 15-piece Gamelan ensemble. Subsequently, Dmitri's family moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he devoted himself fully to drum set. At 16, Dmitri joined the professional Zimbabwe music group, “Jaka”, embarking on a noteworthy five-year touring engagement. His pursuit of musical excellence led him to Berklee College of Music, where he benefited from the mentorship of luminaries such as Swiss Chris, Skip Hadden, and Casey Scheuerell. Post-Berklee, Dmitri seamlessly integrated into the professional music landscape, collaborating with a diverse array of musicians, participating in tours, scoring for film and contributing to the recording of multiple albums. As a composer, Dmitri draws inspiration from an eclectic mix of musical giants, including The Roots, Wayne Shorter, Flying Lotus, Meshuggah, J Dilla, Questlove, Chris “Daddy” Dave, Brian Blade, and Mark Guiliana.

Jaco Imani is a Brooklyn based visual artist and musician. He has been playing some kind of stringed instrument, drawing, making noise, and generally being rowdy since he was a small child. After getting his bachelors in music, he came back to his hometown initially only planning to stay for the summer, but ended up working for the immersive arts company Meow Wolf for the next 4 years. He worked in various roles over that period and was blessed with the opportunity to make a concept album based on a previous Meow Wolf exhibition called the Due Return. This project, under the band name Sable, was his first full length work and was deeply informative to his developing style. After this release he found that between working full time, playing in various side projects, and having a girlfriend, there was little time to practice and so he turned his focus to more immediate electronic compositions. Days in the Cave, under the artist name Noons, was the culmination of this effort and chronicles his process of learning to produce and make mixes that some might consider listenable.

The two part album Allyu is somewhat the genre mixing mutant child of his two previous modalities. It features some of the intricate sound design and electronic music styles of Days in the Cave as well as the intimacy and patient songwriting of The Due Return album. More than any of his other efforts however, Ayllu features influences and improvisational processes from his decade-long journey with Jazz music.

Nate Garner is a multimedia artist working and living in Brooklyn, NY. After studying Jazz Saxophone Performance at the New School in New York City he took a hiatus from performing to pursue the visual arts, graduating from the City College of New York with a degree in Fine Art Photography. Today Nate combines his skills in photography, 3D rendering and animation, and experiential design to explore emotional responses to temporality that are deeply influenced by his foundations in improvisational music.
